Is it true?
This almost Seems surreal... I rode ten hours today, 113 miles, 602.8 miles total in 8 days! and now I'm pulling back into my driveway. NO FLAT TIRES! 6 Broken spokes though :)
funniest thing of all; I think for the first time today, my butt doesn't even hurt!
Much thanks and love to all of you who made this trip possible for me, and who supported me and cheered me on. Couldn't have done it without you. And special thanks 2 my sister Allison and her husband Dan, for bringing me a nephew and the perfect reason to come up north and try this ride.

#5...
Sure am glad I bought some extra spokes, cause I guess that big burrito plate I ate last night put me over the weight limit! :) Just outside Santa Monica I broke spoke number 5. Got 2 left... Hold on baby!
Light at the end of the tunnel
Rounding point mugu, there's this valley of rock that opens up to reveal the coastline... Great way to start off my last day.

Breakfast of champions
After leaving Gaviota this morning, which is 20 miles from any food, and not wanting cliff bars and water 4 breakfast, I rolled in2 Goleta for some coffee cake and a venti mocha frapaccino. With whipped cream of course!

Pier at Gaviota
Nice relaxing evening with the sun going down behind the pier...
Haven't seen any sizeable surf since I left Santa Cruz... I checked all the local spots around pismo, Mike. Not even a Barney in the water! :)

Train bridge at Gaviota State Beach
Passing down hwy. 101 south, right where you would go thru the tunnel (if u were going north) at the first spot you can se the ocean is this great bridge. I've always admired it, and actually crossed it on Amtrak on my journey north. There's a cool little campground called Gaviota where I'm crashing tonight :) $5 if your on your bike, and its almost guaranteed you'll get a spot in the "hike and bike only" section!

First Liners
I just wandered a little from the campground 2 get a bite 2 eat, and found this killer little bar/grill that had live music and open mic. Night. And good food...and good beer...
Campsite @ Pismo dunes
I took a leisurely day cruising from Morro Bay to Slo to Oceano ( pismo dunes ) where I set up camp and let my body recover for the smackdown I'm gonna give it tomorrow!
I broke two more spokes between Slo and here, and decided 2 buy the chainwhip and cassette tool I already owned but didn't't bring, along with 5 Xtra spokes to fix my ride!

Hard Assets...
This ought to b a crowd favorite... Mostly with my cycling friends... So I've been getting alot of questions and comments about how my butt feels. It ranges from "Man, you must have a really raw, chaffed ass " to " Do you have an ass of steel or what? " Well... After an 86 mile day, followed by a grueling 77 mile day, I was feeling it! I hurt a little just to sit down on the toilet. Today however, the Man is back!
I tell you though; I couldn't have done this trip w/o the lubricating help of my little friend: Chamois butt'r. Yes it's spelled like that
:P and its an anti-chaff cream. A couple of Advil and a beer helps too!

Pismo!
The surf was down and the fog was up in Pismo today, but beautiful as always...
I checked Shell beach for surfers too (Law Dog) but nobody was out.

Firestone Grill
No trip through San Luis would b complete w/o eating here :) remissant of my college days and many basketball games on the first big screen tv's, this grill, named after the historic Firestone tire dealer that was here downtown many years ago, has the best seasoned fries and some of the most awesome burgers and steak sandwiches around.
Cambria bikes in San Luis Obispo
Rode in from Morro Bay to SLO this morning and hit a cool bike shop called Cambria Bike Outfiters. (It used 2 b in Cambria ) they sold me some spokes and lent me the tools 2 get me on my way.
Their motto: shut up and ride! I think they stole it from Switchback Cyclery in Orange, Ca. Which is definitely the best bike shop ever! Tim, Sherry, Jason, you rule!

Home away from home
Finally reached Nick And Sadie's place in Morro Bay :~) Thought I'd never get here! You two rock! Thanks so much 4 your hospitality and friendship. I've known Nick and
Sadie since around 1995... used to do Young Life with Nick, and was lucky enough to be in their wedding party. They're so cool, that even though they left to go to Shaver Lake, they still let me use their place!!!
Ahh... Hot shower and laundry...

10... And then another 7...
Although the June gloom (fog for those who haven't lived on the coast) helped keep the temp down and the coast was beautiful, seeing those numbers with a broken spoke and a wobble was wearysome. I should have brought my chain whip, and purchased a couple of spokes from Tim and Sherry at Switchback Cycles in Orange b4 I left!
What in the broken spoke?
So if any of you ride your bike out of Paso, DON'T take Vine street. I've ridden smoother dirt roads! I remembered a pop noise there, then all the climbs at 6-10 mph. I didn't feel a thing. However, coming down the grade at 30, something felt weird...
Is there an end to this leg?
Seriously??? Ok, so I had a fat cheese burger lunch with my two good friends Nick and Sadie, in Paso... 105 Heat! Left to cross 2 the coast on hwy. 46 At 4pm. After 2.5 hours climbing this Bi?@h with 20-30 headwinds, I still had 20+ miles to go!
Castoro Cellars in Paso Robles
Does the name of this vineyard sound familiar to anyone? Right here in Paso!
So your probably thinking, howd he get from New brighton to Paso? Well I rode around the hwy. 1 Fire to Salinas, and @ 11am it was already 99° so I amtraked it to Paso to escape 2 days of triple digit death in the valley...

Strawberry fields 4ever
Oh, man! I must've traveled by 20 miles of these fields this morning. Finally I couldn't take the torture of the sweet smell of strawberries anymore and pulled off in the middle of a field and pillaged some!
New Brighten State Beach
Camped out here last night. SOOOOO beautiful. Just south of Santa Cruz, and right on a wooded bluff above the ocean. Fell asleep to the sound of the ocean waves crashing on the sand.

Where it al happens
If I would have gotten here a little over an hour ago, i could have taken a tour of where Santa Cruz bikes are built.
Pigeon point lighthouse
Cruising the coast rocks! Fruit stands along the way, got cherries, met another biker going 2 L.A. now I'm almost 2 Santa Cruz.
Locked up!
Really officer! I didn't mean to be breaking the speed limit! Lol, i hit 40 coming down one of the grades today.
Lunch in Half Moon Bay
I've met all these random people during my lunch stops and such, who r totally blown away that I'm doing this trip. An older hippie couple took a pic of me today at half moon bay.
Windmill at Golden gate park
One of many historic, Cool things I saw in S.F. +Coit tower, trans america building, the wharf, the Golden Gate bridge (what little u could see through the fog ) the usual freaks downtown!

Giants Stadium
Getting 2 San Francisco early afforded me the opportunity 2 check out At&t park... Awesome!!! I rode around to the bay side and watched part of Sundays game from the jumbotron :)
S.F. Bay ferry
Ok, so you know how (for a guy) an adventure isn't always much of an adventure unless you're doing something a little "on the edge " ? Well I wa gonna do hwy.37 to the top of Mt. Tam, but b/c I've grieved my mom so many times over the years, And she begged me not 2, I took the ferry. A small cheat :) but fun none the less!
Morning cup of jo with Jarad
After leaving Fairfield this morning, and riding uphill into a headwind for 15+ miles, I decided to knock on my homie Jarads door in Vallejo for a short rest and some coffee before continuing. Its good 2 have friends all over the state :)
Vineyards in Fairfield along the route.
All these fields used to be fruit orchards, that at this time of the year would produce sweet smells of nectar that would torture your taste buds! Vineyards are classy too, and the modern picture of the Suisun valley.

Me n Lane
So fun to be at a home that I spent so many holidays with family at. Sits in the middle of some of the most beautiful country that the Suisun valley has to offer. I used to sit in the cheery tree and eat to my hearts content, or drive up the road a few miles to get fresh pears and peaches from our cousins fruit orchards. Mostly vineyards now.
Uncle Lane and Auntie Lindas Ranch house
First leg of my trip is complete! Averaged almost 17 mph. Gotta brag now cuz I'm gonna get my azz kicked on some other legs :)
Winters water tower
Don't know if I'll ever make it thru these parts again on bike, but the mental pics in my head will always be these historic farm towns marked by their self titled water towers. Hasta la vista Winters.
Lake Solano
Beautiful morning for a ride! Making my way down pleasants valley road, I got a fisherman to snap a shot on the bridge overlooking the lake.
Little miracle
Mom, dad and I gathered around Allison and baby Joshua. Allison was so strong during the actual hour of delivery labor, that at one point she laughed to Dan and the doctor, and said "this is so much fun!" :~)
Turners are tough, baby!
Turners are tough, baby!
Rockabye sweet baby J
Nobody told me that at the end of the first day of uncle-hood, that my face would hurt so much from smiling :) I still can't beleive it!
